The greatest benefit of an annual physical is knowledge – for both you and your physician. Keep track of your numbers for blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, body mass index (BMI), and others. These levels may be high without you ever showing any signs or symptoms. Regular screenings to check these areas allow for your Physician to treat these conditions before they become severe. By knowing your numbers, you are making it a priority and taking a proactive approach towards your health. This inevitably could empower you to make wellness an everyday part of your life – or in the long run, reduce total health care spend.

To get the most out of your annual checkup, take a moment to prepare beforehand:

  • Make a list of your health concerns and be ready to address these with your Physician.
  • Make a list of all the medications you are taking.
  • Get a copy of your medical records and your family medical history (if possible) – and make a list of previous doctors if you’ll be seeing a new doctor.
  • Review your health plan to be sure you understand your coverage and what services are covered under your plan.
