February kicks off Heart Health Month. According to the CDC, heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States. Your heart is one of the most important organs in your body, keeping blood pumping through your veins and assisting other organs in their functions. However, if not taken care of – can lead to many complications such as: cardiac arrest, high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, high cholesterol and the list goes on. The good news? Heart disease can often be prevented when people make healthy choices and manage their health conditions.
Keep your heart healthy by:
- Eating healthy
- Being active
- Staying at a healthy weight
- Not smoking
- Managing your conditions, controlling your cholesterol and blood pressure
- Drinking alcohol in moderation
- Managing your stress
