Wellness Wednesday: Back to School!

 

Where did the Summer go? Fall is just around the corner and school is or soon to be “back in session”. The challenge now is getting school back on the mind of your student and developing new routines. Start with Making Sleep a Priority. Developing a strong sleep pattern will enable your student to remain alert throughout their school day and better engaged in what their learning.

Sleep is equally as important as diet and exercise and most healthy children need 8 to 10 hours each night. Use the helpful tips below to ensure a good nights’ rest.

  • Put away electronic devices at least one hour before bedtime.
  • Encourage children to read before bedtime.
  • Avoid exercise, a warm bath or a hot shower shortly before bed. Being overheated or sweating can make it difficult to sleep.
  • A light snack before bed can be beneficial, but avoid caffeine.
