Liz Greer, a population health specialist at Apex, spent her time volunteering with Junior Achievement during Indianapolis Public Schools’ Teacher Appreciation Week.
Why Junior Achievement?
Joani Fletcher presented the opportunity to our staff one day last year and I was intrigued from the start. I love kids and I thought that it seemed like a fun idea and a great way for us to give back to the community, specifically to the IPS teachers.
Were you able to participate in JA as a student?
Unfortunately, No! I wish! We didn’t have anything like this when I was a kid. I wish subjects like life skills, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, etc. would have been talked about more.
What impact did JA have on you when you volunteered?
A very grateful and rewarding impact! Pin and I had the opportunity to be with a group of fourth graders for the WHOLE day and teach lessons surrounding entrepreneurship. Those fourth graders learned the ins and outs of creating a business and even had the opportunity of designing their very own. Their imaginations were endless and it was so cool to see their creativity unfold! I also developed an ever deeper sense of gratefulness towards teachers and their patience and understanding for their students. Hats off to them![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
