An Open Letter to U.S. Military Veterans by Apex CEO John F. Gause
Veteran’s Day provides an opportunity for each of us to reflect on and show our gratitude to the people who have given of themselves to defend our nation’s independence and – through them – our freedoms as individual Americans. The actions of our servicemen and women have changed the course of history, touched lives and spread freedom and democracy to nations around the world.
On this day we look back from the present and remember those individuals who have sacrificed for our country for more than two and a half centuries. With increasing frequency, I see people publicly thanking our service members who are in uniform. This display of gratitude is always touching.
I had the opportunity this past summer to walk the beaches of Normandy and visit the American Cemetery and Memorial. What struck me most was the sense of gratitude the French people have for the United States. But I was quickly reminded of the fact that this was a country that had been under German control for a year and a half and our U.S. veterans risked their own lives to give them freedom.
So whether we’re looking back on World War II or other battles throughout U.S. history and remembering those who have served in our Armed Forces, we all owe our veterans a sincere thank you. In fact, as Americans, we owe a tremendous amount of gratitude to our veterans who, during peace and war, have demonstrated a steadfast commitment to safeguarding the principles upon which our nation was founded.
I would like to extend my personal thanks for their service to our country and also for the sacrifices of all veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces. Please take a moment today to honor those who have served.
