Mat creates content through various mediums to promote and represent the Apex Benefits brand. He focuses on telling the success stories of Apex clients, while also breaking down healthcare data, case studies and whitepapers to help audiences better understand the source material. While doing so, Mat also develops relations with media outlets to help promote Apex.
Before joining Apex in 2020, Mat spent five-plus years as a sports writer and sports editor at the Quincy (Ill.) Herald-Whig and Hannibal (Mo.) Courier-Post newspapers. There, he developed his passion for writing human-interest pieces that went beyond describing the final score of a game. Mat won Best Sports Feature and Best Breaking News awards by the Illinois Press Association while at the Herald-Whig. He also crafted skills in page design, social media and photography while working in journalism.
Away from the office, Mat spends his time watching basketball and baseball and hopes to one day witness the Cincinnati Reds win the World Series. He enjoys traveling overseas with his wife Heather to cities like London, Paris and Rome. He enjoys cooking, watching Netflix documentaries and reading longform journalism. Mat, Heather and his stepdaughter Adele live in Noblesville with their dog Eva and their cat Franklin. Mat graduated from Ball State University with a BA in journalism.
