SCOTUS Decision

The United States Supreme Court shut down the Biden administration’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate for U.S. employers Thursday afternoon, according to The Associated Press.

At the same time, the court is allowing the mandate for most health care workers in the country to proceed.

The vaccine mandate ordered businesses with at least 100 employees to have their workforce either vaccinated or undergo weekly testing while wearing a mask. More than 80 million employees would have been affected.

The mandate the court will allow to be enforced covers virtually all health care workers in the country. It applies to health care providers receiving federal Medicare or Medicaid funding, potentially affecting 76,000 health care facilities as well as home health care providers. Medical and religious exemptions are included in the rule.

Apex Benefits will provide more information about the Supreme Court’s decision and what it means for employers moving forward.
