Some of our favorite holidays are just around the corner and so many of us are looking forward to spending time with friends and family. With the health of our world right now, we need to be conscious and careful about being around large groups of people and those who live outside the household.
Here are a few important practices to help you and your loved ones stay healthy while being together this holiday season.
First, frequently wipe commonly touched surfaces before and after holiday gatherings to decrease germs being spread through touching any of these surfaces. This includes countertops, tables, door handles and railings.
Second, if you have babies or toddlers in your family, please avoid kissing them on their faces or hands. Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and flu season are at their peak this time of year. These viruses are spread through saliva/or droplets and can result in severe illness in children.
Third, during holiday gatherings make sure you are not touching your face, especially around your mouth and nose, without having washed your hands immediately beforehand. These are extremely common places for germs from your hands to enter your body.
Finally, it is important to be diligent about washing your hands frequently as this continues to be one of the top ways to prevent germs from being spread. Some of the most important times to wash your hands are after going to the restroom, after petting animals, after shaking others’ hands, and before/after eating or handling food.
We hope these tips and tricks help you and your loved ones stay healthy while celebrating together this holiday season.
