Apex Benefits General Counsel and Vice President of External Affairs Todd Rokita has been asked to participate in the Indiana General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer Trends and Ethics Seminar on June 28, 2019. Rokita will join other attorneys in discussing challenges and sharing best practices regarding the integral role corporate attorneys and chief legal officers play in organizational success.

Rokita will participate in the afternoon presentation, “Knowing the Law is No Longer Enough – Valued Business Partners Succeed.” This session focuses on how general counsel effectively support corporate growth and business strategies. Rokita and two additional panelists will highlight the importance of forming relationships within an enterprise to effectively support business executives and work with colleagues and constituents.

“Attorneys transitioning to corporate counsel positions are expected to do much more than provide legal advice,” Rokita says. “Providing legal counsel is vital, yet the role of general counsel inside organizations has expanded. We’re expected to go above and beyond to provide strategic perspectives and insights on business decisions while keeping in mind the legal and ethical consequences of those decisions.”

Rokita practiced law for several years before entering politics, representing the interests of Indiana businesses and individuals in state and federal courts. He served as one of Indiana’s U.S. Congressmen, representing Indiana’s Fourth Congressional District from 2011 to 2019, and as Indiana’s Secretary of State from 2003 to 2011. His most recent experience working and collaborating with Apex Benefits’ business leaders on corporate growth initiatives and legal strategies will contribute greatly to the discussion.

The Trends and Ethics Seminar will be held at Quarles & Brady LLP from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 28. Attendance qualifies for Continuing Legal Credits (CLE) for Indiana attorneys.
