Make the Holidays Healthier

As we move into the holiday season, it’s time to gather with our loved ones and indulge in festive treats. While it can be easy to get caught up in heavy foods and sugary drinks, it’s also the perfect opportunity to showcase delicious, healthy options. Here are some ways that you can consider lighter, healthier options for your holiday spread.

  1. Maintain balance without deprivation: One of the main reasons people stray from their health routines during the holidays is the feeling of having to “choose” between indulgence and discipline. The key to maintaining a balanced diet through the holidays is not deprivation, but moderation. Healthy appetizers like stuffed mini bell peppers, cauliflower buffalo bites and whole grain avocado dip are packed with flavor but without the excess processed ingredients.
  2. Try mocktails: Mocktails offer a fun and festive alternative to alcoholic drinks without feeling like you’re missing out. You can still enjoy the fun of a fancy drink—complete with garnishes and beautiful presentations—without the extra sugar. When considering your holiday drink options, keep fresh fruit, herbs, sodas and sparkling waters on hand to help create the perfect mocktail.
  3. Feel good as you indulge in what matters: Holiday gatherings are not just about food and drinks; they are about connection, laughter and making memories. By choosing healthier options, you reduce the likelihood of feeling sluggish, overstuffed or regretting your food choices the next day. The focus shifts from simply indulging in food to indulging in experiences—conversations, activities and shared joy.

Check out some fun and tasty recipes to consider for your appetizer and cocktail hours this holiday season:
