In his book The Happiness Advantage, Shawn reveals that our brains are hardwired to perform at their best when they are in a positive mindset. Below are three simple, yet effective strategies to enhance both your personal and professional life.

  • Start your day in the right mindset – Before you check work emails or head into the office, try exercising, meditation, eating a nutrient-rich breakfast or playing with your kids. Taking the opportunity to control what you can will help manage your mood and big-picture perspective.
  • Pursue a passion daily – Whether you are passionate about people, purpose, or a past-time, find a way to incorporate it into your schedule. The most joyful people always have an optimistic anticipation or something to look forward to build into their week.
  • Throw gratitude around like it’s confetti – In the fast-paced world that we live in today, appreciation has become the exception, not the norm. Saying “thank you” with a smile on your face or sending a “job well done” email provides as much joy to the sender, as it does to the recipient.
