Stress-Free Holidays and Staying Healthy
The holidays are just around the corner and the busy season ahead can quickly lead to a hectic schedule. Use the tips below to keep you up on your game this holiday season – with hopes to lessen stress, maintain energy and avoid getting sick.
- Take time for basic needs. Aim for 7 to 9 hours of quality sleep every night, as well as 3 balanced meals daily. Also, don’t forget about exercise – recommended amount of 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise weekly (e.g.,brisk walking).
- Watch for opportune exercise. Park furthest away in the parking lot of a local shopping mall and walk to it.
- Keep your hands clean. Sing Happy Birthday twice (up to 20 seconds) while washing your hands and keep your distance from sick coworkers and family members.
- You don’t have to do it all. You’re not being a Scrooge if you need to say No to family and friends to relieve stress and recharge.
- Snack for energy. Have some fruit, nuts and seeds with you when working or traveling.
- Quiet your mind. Check out meditation apps to create mindfulness and help you to relieve stress or pain.
- Relax in the moment. Open your mind and your eyes to the warmth of your surroundings — find a quiet space that works best for you.
- Encourage others. Wear a smile, offer compliments, and be patient with those who appear stressed. When a friend seems upset or blue, lend an ear and just listen.
Cheers to a healthy and stress-free holiday season!
