The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for full use for Americans 16 and older Monday.
The Pfizer vaccine first was granted Emergency Use Authorization in December 2020, and the authorization was expanded to individuals ages 12 through 15 in May 2021, and continues to be available and for the administration of a third booster dose for immunocompromised individuals.
More than 200 million Pfizer doses already have been administered in the U.S since December.
