Have you ever woken up in the morning with the feeling of having so much to do that you don’t know where to start? Let’s be honest, we all have! Often, everything that you have to do seems like a priority, which can make it tough to figure out where to begin. Though long-term prioritization and planning is essential, developing planning techniques that help you make progress on a day to day basis are just as important. By implementing a few of the planning techniques mentioned below, you can help reduce a probable link to stress, which in return could benefit your overall health.
- Make a List – First thing in the morning, write down everything that needs to get done for that day. Once you’ve completed your list, separate those items into categories – urgent versus non-urgent to help determine the top priorities for the day.
- Be Honest – When creating your list of priorities, be realistic about your bandwidth. Setting unattainable goals or deadlines will only cause potential disappointment in the future.
- Be Flexible – To be able to effectively prioritize, you must be able to deal with changing priorities. Take them as they come and determine their urgency.
- Cut the Cord – When something is important, it’s really easy to get caught up in the details and end up spending way too much time on a specific project or task. This in return could prevent you from getting other stuff knocked off your list. Acknowledge when you’re doing this and enforce strict deadlines to keep yourself on track throughout your day.
