Salazar DEI Officer


Apex Benefits, Indiana’s largest employer health benefits advisory firm and services provider, has announced HR Consultant and Associate Counsel Brooke Salazar recently accepted the additional responsibility to serve as Apex’s first Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) Officer.

“I am incredibly proud to be a part of an organization that wants to actively live their values,” Salazar said. “Attracting and retaining diverse workforces has been my passion for over a decade, and to be able to build upon the good work that has been done here at Apex is an honor and my sincere privilege.”

This position is intended to be both an internal resource to continue growth at Apex while also serving as a resource externally to our clients and other employers. Salazar’s experience has shown she is a proven leader in diversity and inclusion initiatives, which led to her expanded role at Apex.  She will also continue her work in the community to promote diversity, equity and inclusion.

“Brooke was selected as she as a passion for embracing each person’s unique experiences and talents,” said Jim Harenberg, Apex chief operating officer. “As an attorney, she has focused a great deal of energy on understanding this area of the law. Throughout her career she has led numerous initiatives to enhance employers’ inclusiveness efforts.”

As Apex’s DE&I Officer, Salazar will have several responsibilities:

  • Partnering with Apex’s HR team to ensure Apex’s recruiting and employee relations strategies and programs embrace diversity and promote equity and inclusion
  • Developing learning opportunities to ensure all employees have access to resources to learn and grow
  • Providing the management team with counsel regarding opportunities across operations to enhance leadership and engagement of a diverse workforce
  • Develop resources and provide counsel for employers as part of the EmpactHR consulting practice

Salazar’s official title is now Apex HR Consultant, Associate Counsel and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer.
