Apex Benefits is named a 2022 Adoption Advocate

Indiana’s largest advisory firm has been named an Adoption Advocate by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. The 16th annual Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces Survey ranked Apex Benefits ninth in the nation in the small employer breakout list. The survey highlights employers that go above and beyond with their benefit offerings. For instance, ensuring their employees have the resources to expand their families.

The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption partnered with RTI International to create the Best Adoption-Friendly Workplace survey. The survey scores each company on their financial reimbursement, paid leave and eligible employees.

Full-time Apex employees are eligible for 10 days of parental leave and receive $5,000 in reimbursement to help cover adoption-related expenses. For instance, these expenses could include:

  • Application fees
  • Home studies
  • Legal, agency or placement fees
  • Court costs
  • Immigration, immunization and translation fees
  • Travel and transportation fees, including meals and lodging
  • Parent, child and family adoption counseling
  • Medical expenses of the child before adoption

Benefits That Make a Difference

Apex’s resident licensed clinical social worker Andrea Hickle recently utilized the benefits to officially adopt her daughter Kaylen after serving as an adoption advocate and foster parent herself.

When I decided to come work for Apex in 2021 a big part of my reasoning for picking Apex was the fact that they supported me being a foster parent and prioritized flexibility and family. I was unaware of the adoption benefits until I started working at Apex,” Hickle said.

“At the time, I was already in the process of adopting Kaylen, so when I heard that the company prioritized and recognized adoptive parents—that was huge. This benefit allows me to take 10 days of parental leave so I can ensure that Kaylen knows how much she is loved and prioritized.”

Hickle is planning to take all 10 days throughout the year to spend quality time with Kaylen to bond as mother and daughter. Moreover, the reimbursement benefit will allow for stress-free bonding by taking care of legal fees and other expenses she has incurred throughout the process.

Director of Apex Academy Toni Stinson was one of the first employees to take advantage of Apex’s adoption benefits.

John Gause and HR created the adoption benefit while we were in the process of adopting. Not only did it provide us with the opportunity to be open to an out-of-state adoption, which has extra fees and expenses, but it told us that the company respected and honored adoptive families. In a very real way, this benefit helped Troy, Alex and I become a family,” said Stinson.

Apex Benefits offers a variety of benefits to provide opportunities for its employees to enjoy fulfilling lives. Are you ready to start your journey with Apex? View open positions and apply today by visiting apexbg.com/who-we-are/careers/.
